Summary

black legend" https://www。goodreads。com/review/show。。。 & from_review_page = 1 Velez with his books has done a great favor to the social science of history。 It is good that thanks to the interdisciplinary nature of science we can count on as beneficial as this aid。 Another thing I should do is apologize to Mr。 Vélez at the beginning he had said, that he would write a critique of his book "the myth of Cortés" https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/3。。。 , but it seems that in place of the "myth of Cortés ' ordered this instead of the other, tree of the letters https://www。elarboldelasletras。com/ 。 I would also like to express my thanks to Mr Jorge Reyes, because thanks to your requests encourage me to write, or at least try to write this critique concluded the fatal period of 13:30 and have to leave work。 Taking a forced vacation until the second week of September。 I must admit, that this book has dusted off many of the memories of the kind of history the American Hispanic modern, I gave with my teacher Ángel Sanz Tapia。 The first chapter begins with a description of the Aztecs, I remember having read in the book, but the first thing is that the Aztecs were so alien to the Mexican central plateau as they were the Spaniards in fact, came from the United States。 In the first chapter Velez explains that it is society was far from this arcadica civilization which we Liberals, leftists, and the members of the PRI have painted and that if they had not conquered and defeated other peoples like the Tlaxcalans was as Moctezuma/II you explained to cuts, because I needed people to practice their human sacrifices。 Part of that I went back to reconnect with old acquaintances of the career as a Ahuizolt, or Axayacalt。 。 I met thanks to Vélez the defeat suffered by the Aztecs by hand of the Tarascans, and description of the brutal Aztec gods。 In the second chapter we described of enjoyable and instructive as steps were following that Cortés conquered Mexico, and Velez tells us the progress of the Spanish conquistadors in Mesoamerica。 I took a surprise, when I learned that the expedition of Grijalba, had already had contacts with the Maya。 I thought is that this had happened, when Pedro Montejo the elder who became Marquis of peanut conquered the Mayans。 The truth is that it is for the cause, which is must recognize the great value of the expedition members, because to go on an expedition like that is to risk their lives。 The struggles of power is also very interesting for who controls the expeditions if the Archbishop does Fonseca or another group。 Depending on, of whoever has control can arrange patterns of conquest。 It is also very interesting, as Velez explains the complex relationship between courts and the Governor Diego Velázquez。 But what fascinates me this book part of the erudition of Mr。 Vélez is talent, and cuts, and how intelligence capable of recovering from the worst scenarios, even when things are wrong given think for example with the sad night , or the campaign in Tlatelolco。 This book is not a hagiography of courts, although this book is very favorable。 Velez has no problem to explain the passages of darker life of Cortés as the massacre in Cholula, once had an ambush attempt to finish with the Spaniards。 We see how he does not hesitate to hang, and cut hands (but it will always try not to kill people)。 A truly dark episode was the conspiracy of Villafana, and also the implementation of Cuathemoc, or the Guatemotzin, nor Velez hides cuts to defend slavery in certain cases。 Remember, that in the end the hypothesis that triumphed was Francisco de Vitoria is one way media compared the Ginés de Sepúlveda (it is very interesting to see how courts helped Sepulveda against Bartolomé de las Casas), which did not hesitate, though moved by good intentions exaggerate the virtues of the Indians by denying its shortcomings。 Having triumphed in the theory of Bartolomé de las Casas, surely it would have lost the effort to evangelize and bring the Catholic faith to those lands, and not is had been able to implement good, which Spain brought these lands。 It is true we get much gold, silver and other products in Exchange is brought also much hostile territory is pacified, was respected the culture of the aborigines, and never was better administered america。 Certainly one cannot understand the strong animosity that exists toward cuts having cases as of July Caesar in Gaul, the case of Alexander the great, or the Gengis Kahn, which I don't see, having a criticism as cruel, as which the Conqueror has received Me telinense。 Moreover, one of the things that I liked Iván Vélez book is that it has not stopped with the defeat of the Aztecs, and the conquest of Tenochtitlan, but to continue with the conquest of Mexico, and various expeditions of the Spanish conquistadors。 For example, to me as a historian was very clarifying the idea that Skywalker Henan cuts relate to Nuño Guzmán (clear not had stayed very this aspect during the race)。 Another thing that fascinated me much of the Iván Vélez project, is to submit to courts as a continuation of the project of Columbus, and that trying still to reach Cathay, and Asiia Santo Tomas, the Nestorians, emulating the Franciscans as Rothbruck, and to the own Marco Polo。 It was a shame, and that project almost unrealizable。 Spanish explorers could not know that they would have that up very made North to Alaska, and across the Bering Strait。 By the time it would have been an inhuman effort。 If something I as a historian, because taught it me Hilaire Belloc is not thinking in the ancient times as if they were, but think of these as if they were yesterday same https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/7。。。 https://www。goodreads。com/author/show。。。 is this a concept that historians should accept, just like the Chestertonian`s idea https://www。goodreads。com/author/show。。。 of the democracy of the dead, and be grateful to our ancestors of the positive things that we have inherited, and that was thanks to their efforts, efforts, and your generosity。 Therefore we should not mock us for their mistakes, and contemplate the possibilities, as perfectly feasible。 Is why I defend the subject the uchronia, or history fiction, because there is this past, but if those decisions had been taken could have occurred otherwise facts (an example of this even if it is a science fiction novel is the book "the patrol the time"by Poul Anderson, although I do not agree entirely with its history of the Peru https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/2。。。 and to finish with the vision so dark and black of the middle ages, I recommend"Eifelheim"of Michael Flynn https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/4。。。 (which I would define as the anti-name of the rose)。 。 Another very interesting chapter of the book is the last one, where the author according to the theories of his teacher Gustavo Bueno, defends that the arrival in America was a test on the belief in the sphericity of the Earth。 We must remember, that only Protestants, to damage the scholastic legacy, and medieval defended this hoax saying, that in the month age people believed that the Earth was flat。 One of the popularizers of this hoax was precisely the anti-Catholic, and hispanofobo Washington Irving https://www。goodreads。com/author/show。。。 https://www。religionenlibertad。com/ci。。。 to Toscanelli, Marinus of tyre, Pierre D'Ally and Martin Behaim, spoke in favor of the sphericity of the Earth。 The rejection of Columbus was not due that the Earth was flat, but had miscalculated measures, and the time that would last the trip。 measures, and the time that would last the trip。 Another very positive thing is that Iván Vélez used various modern both sources, such as old Bernal Diaz del Castillo https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/1。。。 , Gomara, Cervantes and Salazar, and others。 Perhaps I would have recommended you make an index of names at the end, or an appendix with the companions of the conquest of Cortés, and explain that it was for each。 The author explains it, but it is a little confusing, and this would be very beneficial to the reader。 Also I would have liked, which had pronounced to answer the negative trials of Hernán cuts, but, I think, that already did this in his book on "The myth of Cortés"。 I have nothing to add, except congratulate Mr Vélez shed some light on our past, and try to show that the history of Spain was just as worthy, than the rest of the Empires。 For users of Goodreads, I recommend the wonderful book by Salvador de Madariaga ""The heart of green stone"https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/8。。。 "The God of rain on Mexico"László Passuth https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/4。。。 better than"Captain from Castile"Samuel Shellabarger which is slightly tinged with legend black https://www。goodreads。com/book/show/3。。。# While it is true that I am not very much agree with the view that gives Hernán cuts。 One last thing is not see Spain as a predatory Empire of which Mr Vélez talked about us both, but as a loving mother, who is pleased with Latin America, Equatorial Guinea, and the Philippines, because it was not a union racial, but cultural, moral and spiritual in spite that some liberal, Protestant, or left-wing ideologues to endeavor to say otherwise 。。。more
